LWVLA Members Meeting- Discussion: LWVUS Transformation Journey. Some of you may have heard that the League of Women Voters of the US (LWVUS) began strategic planning in 2017 and published its intentions in 2018. The "transformation journey" adopted by the national League's Board declares:

Mission Statement: Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy.

Vision Statement: We envision a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge, and the confidence to participate.

Value Statement: We believe in the power of women to create a more perfect democracy.

LWVUS will build on the existing Campaign for Making Democracy Work® and focus on five program-level strategies:ensure voter access, mobilize voters, provide voter education, ensure voter protection, and promote transparency and accountability in government.

Beyond these broad priorities emphasizing voting and election issues, some structural and cultural objectives are still being refined and communicated by the national League and digested by local Leagues across the country. These include greater emphasis on diversity and inclusion, movement toward one seamless League, and increased capacity through technology, communication and financial infrastructure upgrades.

For detailed information, see: https://www.lwv.org/league-management/policies-guidelines/transformation-roadmap.

The LWVLA Board and our own strategic planning process are actively monitoring the LWVUS progress. Naturally, LWVLA members will be informed if there are local impacts. On Tuesday, February 26th (9:30 a.m., Public Library for Union County) members are invited to discuss the LWVUS Transformation Journey; what we do and do not yet understand and to collect questions which can be shared with national League's leadership.
